Limiting Beliefs.
With February upon us, 92% of New Year’s Resolutions gone forever or vanishing fast, it could be your limiting beliefs that are preventing you from achieving your success. It’s time to take steps to insulate against the assassination of your goals for 2014. Self belief is a critical component and building belief in yourself, your dreams, goals and desires is vital to survive the journey. You need to build padding to keep yourself on track, and prevent being pulled off course by other opportunities that seem enticing at the time, and the obstacles or comments that weaken your resolve and shed a veil of doubt on your dreams.
As well as self belief, every belief you hold to be true is part of the foundation that creates your future successes and achievements, and adds or detracts to your level of self belief. Positive empowering beliefs can add fuel to your results, whereas limiting beliefs can water them down, extinguish them, lead to resignation or giving up your heart’s desires. A belief is anything you accept as real or true. It may be your own perception or something you heard or read, probably when you were young.
Limiting beliefs may seem true
yet they block success and ultimately your happiness. Many limiting beliefs are held unconsciously, which means you aren’t consciously aware of them, yet they are showing up in your results. People hold all sorts of beliefs in the storehouse of their minds. When you question or challenge them, you are starting to dismantle your Limiting Beliefs and expanding your chances of success, improving your sense of well being and clearing the path ahead.
The key to uncovering your limiting beliefs is to first, pay attention to your feelings. When you feel a painful emotion there is a strong clue to a limiting belief below this. Next, pay attention to what you say to yourself. You may hear yourself say ‘I’m not good enough’ – a prevalent, toxic limiting belief, or the belief may be hidden beneath a statement such as ‘It’s not my fault I didn’t get the job. My boss doesn’t like me’.
Beliefs including:
‘I’m not good enough’
‘My boss doesn’t think I’m up to the job’
‘Life isn’t fair’
‘I’ll never get a promotion’
Here are 10 questions to help you dig out your limiting beliefs and dismantle their power over your results.
- What is lacking in your life?
- What reasons or excuses are you making for your lack?
- What makes you angry?
- What holds you back from taking action towards your goals?
- Do you procrastinate? If yes, finish the following statement: I procrastinate because…
- Do your habits support your goals?
- Do you love and respect yourself? If not finish the statement: I would love and respect myself if…
- Do you fear success or failure, or both?
- Do you find it hard to say no to other people’s demands?
- How honest were you with yourself answering these questions?
Go through your responses, dig down and ask yourself what belief or beliefs could you be fostering to write what you wrote?
If there was another belief beneath this one, what could it be? Highlight any beliefs or phrases that could be limiting your results.
Congratulations, you have taken the first step to uncover your limiting beliefs. By writing down your responses to the questions, reading them and questioning them, you are becoming more conscious of them. This is the first step to dismantling your limiting beliefs, and releasing the grip on your success!
